Easy Spanish Recipes!

While we were in Majorca, we took a dive into making some of our own Spanish cuisine. We tried to make simple, inexpensive Spanish food with some of our twist to it. The cost of making all three of these dishes is cheaper than going out to dinner for two at most restaurants on the island, and you’ll have leftovers for every dish!

Tortilla Española

To prepare traditional Tortilla you need:

  • 3 big potatoes
  • good quality olive oil (should be in a dark glass bottle)
  • 6 eggs
  • garlic (as much you like 😉 )
  • onion
  • salt and pepper, sugar
  • as a curry lovers, we tried something new and added yellow curry (it gives it a nice color)

Chop potatoes, onion and garlic into really thin slices. Heat the oil and fry the onion first, add a little bit of sugar to let the onion caramelize. Than add potatoes and fry them until golden. Afterwards add garlic but make sure you don’t burn it because it will be bitter. Use a slotted spoon to scoop out the potatoes, onion and garlin into a bowl. Mix it with eggs, salt, pepper and curry to taste. Put it back in the pan with hot oil and fry both sides. To flip the tortilla, cover the pan with a large plate, keeping your hand on bottom of the plate, flip the pan and plate upside down. Then slide the contents back into the pan.

Seafood Paella

To prepare Seafood Paella you need:

  • Paella Rice
  • 1 Small Crab
  • 1/2 lb. Shrimp
  • 4 Large Langoustines
  • 1/4 lb. Clams
  • Saffron
  • Fish or Shrimp Stock
  • 1/2 Onion
  • Peas
  • 2 Carrots
  • 1 Pepper
  • Garlic
  • 2 Fresh Tomatoes
  • Olive Oil
  • Butter
  • 1 Glass of White Wine

First fry 1/2 of a chopped onion in hot olive oil. After a bit of caramelization, add chopped pepper, carrots, and garlic. Add a little white wine and butter and chopped tomatoes before the garlic begins burning. Fill the base of the pan with the paella rice, mix ingredients and fry. Heat stock in a separate pan and slowly add it to your rice mixture spoon by spoon so as not to create rice soup. Once the stock has cooked down and rice is halfway done add seafood, saffron, and peas to the pan. Be sure to mix, and cook down until rice is done and the clams have opened up. Bon appétit!

Citrus and Herb Dorada

To prepare Dorada you will need:

  • 1 Dorada Fish
  • 1 Orange
  • Parsley
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Olive Oil

First clean the fish inside and out. Cut 3 slices into each side of the fish deep enough into the meat to make space for an orange slice. Put salt and pepper on the fish, don’t forget the inside as well. Stuff the fish with parsley and a few orange slices, and squeeze a little juice into it. Add orange slices into the cuts you’ve made in the fish. Heat oil in a pan, and cook both sides of the fish until finished. Make sure the oil isn’t too hot so you don’t leave the middle raw! We served our Dorada over a fresh tomato and olive salsa. Enjoy!
